INTRODUCTION

The notion of the African youth conference against hunger has been thought of in Brazil during the world social forum by delegates from NAYAFS (National Youth for Food Security), Action Aid International- The Gambia and the Global Youth Action Network (GYAN). The primary aim of the conference has been to assess the progress being made on the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) in Africa with specific emphasis on goal one which has been to reduce by half hunger and extreme poverty world wide by the year 2015. Consequence to the successes of the first and second edition which have been held in the Gambia (2005) and Senegal (2006) respectively, the third edition which has been held in Sierra Leone aimed at pursuing a different approach in youth participation to combating hunger and poverty in Africa. The conference gathered youths from across Africa in order to reviewing the progress they have made so far since the first and second edition. The conference did not only aim at building the capacities of youth, but also created the forum for youth participation and partnership in the fight to exterminate hunger and poverty for the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) on the African continent.
